The histrory of the Marziali coffee Roasting
In 1922, Leone Marziali founded his coffee roasting company in front of the historic "La Fenice" theater in Rome. At that time, coffee was an elite beverage; famous figures like Edoardo and Peppino De Filippo, Renato Rascel, and the Maggio brothers would often gather in the atrium of the roasting house after each performance.
Before long, Marziali’s espresso blends became as popular and renowned as the guests who enjoyed them. Over the next decade, Leone opened other nearby coffee houses with the help of his brothers. From 1933 onwards, Marziali’s reputation had grown so much that he began to supply exclusive blends to prestigious hotels, bars, and restaurants.
In 1964, Renato Marziali took the helm of the roasting business. With his strong entrepreneurial skills and his father’s passion for coffee, Marziali Caffè gradually became one of the largest coffee roasters in central Italy.
One loyal customer brought this excellent roaster to our attention:
"I’m a regular customer of your fantastic shop. I’m in Rome at the moment and stumbled upon a wonderful espresso. Have you heard of Marziali? I know you already offer an exceptional selection, but I felt compelled to share my recent experience with this coffee."
And this customer was absolutely right.
Initially, it wasn’t easy to get in touch with this roaster, but as always, our Luisa Licchelli was persistent enough to convince them and align them with our philosophy. After all, such an exclusive espresso deserves to be featured in an environment known for years for offering an assortment of exceptional quality. Thanks to this carefully curated selection, we have built a loyal and discerning clientele who truly appreciate such gems.
We are thrilled to welcome this traditional Roman roaster into our collection of premium coffee roasters, especially on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
